The Broderie Anglaise Edit: Wrap Dress

After three parts of the How to Style series, it's high time to introduce a new series on YZ Wears: The Edit. While How to Style takes a clothing item or an accessory and shows you how to dress it up and down, The Edit is a curated collection of key trends in their various forms. The first part of The Edit focuses on broderie anglaise in three different forms: a dress, a top and a skirt. Broderie anglaise means English embroidery in French and incorporates embroidery, cutwork and needle lace features. I find it such a beautiful design and the epitome of Summer style.

In my opinion, wrap dresses are incredibly flattering on most body types as it cinches you in at the smallest part of your body: your waist. This one is from River Island's petite range, which is the perfect length on me: not too long nor too short. I rarely see one shoulder wrap dresses and I think the asymmetry adds an element of interest to the dress. My biggest gripe with white dresses from the high street is the lack of inner lining or the sheerness of its fabric. However, this one has a thick inner lining that doesn't expose my underwear.

I finally caved into the Castañer hype and bought a pair of their white espadrille wedges. I already have a pair of black ones from Topshop and was looking for a pair of white ones for my Summer wardrobe (as you can soon tell, I seem to have developed an obsession with white shoes). As much as I love my Topshop ones, they're quite heavy and I didn't like this season's version, so I decided to try out Castañer's ones. They're noticeably lighter and the lower heel makes them easier and more comfortable to walk in. They're more of an off-white than a pure white, so do bear that in mind if you're thinking of purchasing them. White and straw accessories go really well together, so of course I had to style the dress with my Ellen & James round straw bag. Lastly, my Ray-Ban 'Aviator' sunglasses finish the look.
