Timmy Green Review

The Daisy Green Collection has expanded with several branches across London. I'd heard a lot of good things about their Australian brunches, so I decided to try one of their newest restaurants, Timmy Green, in Nova, Victoria. From browsing the menus of their various branches online, I realised that each one has pretty much the same menu.

Award-winning banana bread sandwich (£9.70)

I'd read reviews online that the portion is huge but I didn't find that to be the case. The portion leaves you satisfied but it may not be enough for big eaters. I think the price is steep considering you only get two medium slices of banana bread, a dollop of mascarpone, a handful of berries and a decent amount of flaked almonds. The menu said it also comes with honey but I couldn't taste any in mine. To be honest, I'm not sure what awards this banana bread sandwich has won because if I were the judge, it wouldn't have won any. The banana bread was burnt, dry and had only a slight hint of banana flavour. The mascarpone, which was light and not too sweet, made the banana bread taste more moist and flavourful. The berries were fresh and the flaked almonds added a nice crunch. However, I was unimpressed with the overall taste of the dish; it was below average. In my opinion, Kaffeine still serves the best banana bread I've tried thus far.

Two free range eggs on charcoal bread with house made chilli pesto and cucumber ribbon (£7.00) and added sausage (£2.50)

You can choose how you want your eggs to be cooked: poached, scrambled or fried. My friend opted for scrambled eggs, which were decently light and fluffy. However, I still prefer Granger & Co.'s scrambled eggs. The charcoal bread tasted like normal sourdough bread and I couldn't detect any charcoal flavour, whatever that was supposed to be. I found the chilli pesto too dry, grainy and bland. The sausage was also dry and expensive for such a small portion. Overall, this was an average dish and nothing to shout about.
