Farm Girl Review

Hibiscus matcha latte (£4.20) and mini raspberry croissant (approximately £3)

My first visit to Farm Girl was their branch above the Sweaty Betty store on Carnaby Street. I'd initially wanted to try their pancakes but they don't serve it in that branch, so I decided to order the hibiscus matcha latte and mini raspberry croissant instead. I'm not sure why it's called hibiscus matcha latte because it didn't taste like either hibiscus or matcha. It's described in the menu as organic red matcha latte with coconut milk. It tasted like beetroot and the combination of beetroot and the overpowering coconut milk made for a very unpleasant taste. I struggled to finish half of it and couldn't stomach the remaining half, which was wasteful because the price was extortionate for such a small cup. The mini raspberry croissant was pricey as well considering how tiny it was (I can't remember the exact price but it was around £3). It was an average tasting croissant with decent raspberry filling, but nothing to shout about.

You would think I'd learned my lesson but I really wanted to try their pancakes, so I made a second visit to their original branch on Portobello Road in Notting Hill...

Berry pancakes (£12)

The pancakes were made of buckwheat flour and their texture was more dense than light and fluffy, which is how I like my pancakes. The amber maple syrup had a deep, almost smokey flavour which was nice but I found it a bit too sweet. The mixed berries were fresh and the coconut shavings added a nice texture to the pancakes. In my opinion, the pancakes were just okay and failed to excite me.

Farm omelette (£8)

The omelette was made of three eggs cooked in coconut oil with toasted sourdough bread. The omelette was so bland. It didn't taste like much even with a generous helping of salt and pepper.

Overall, I thought the food at Farm Girl was overpriced and unimpressive. The decor in the Notting Hill branch is quite pretty, but not pretty enough to justify the subpar food.
