How to Style Corsets: Look 1

What better way to kick off the How to Style series on YZ Wears than with corsets? Although they're not that big a trend in Spring/Summer as they were in Autumn/Winter, I still think they're a good trend to incorporate into your wardrobe for the hotter months. You can get them in various forms: belts, tops, dresses, skirts, shorts, trousers, etc. I decided to go for corset t-shirts as I find them more wearable than the other options but edgier than a simple t-shirt and that's what I'm all about: basics with a twist. When I really like something, I tend to get it in all the colourways that it's available in and this Zara corset t-shirt is no exception as I got it in both black and white. The first look features the white one and is a dressy outfit.

Now I know what you're thinking: "How can a t-shirt look dressy?" The trick to dress up t-shirts is pairing them with tailored bottoms like these black Zara high-waisted wide-legged trousers. Some people have the misconception that trousers look masculine but when done right, they actually look elegant and feminine, especially wide-legged trousers. I think it's because of their flowy movement. These trousers are supposed to be ankle grazers but on me, they just about reach the floor (note: I'm slightly under 5' 2"). If you, like me, are on the shorter side, the trick to ensure that wide-legged trousers don't drown you and make you look shorter than you actually are is wearing them with streamlined heels. This is because heels give you a boost of height and unlike chunky heels, streamlined ones won't clash with the fluidity of wide-legged trousers, thereby creating a continuous line and seamless movement.

I went for minimal barely there heeled sandals but another great option is pointed toe pumps. These Zara heeled sandals are a dupe for the Stuart Weitzman 'Nudist' heeled sandals because they look very similar but are a fraction of the price. Bonus: they're comfortable too! Another trick to dress up t-shirts is your choice of accessories: pick ones that are dressier like high heels and evening bags. This Chanel WOC (wallet on chain) is so versatile because it can be dressed up or down and look appropriate either way. If you're thinking of buying it, I highly recommend getting one in caviar leather because it's hard-wearing and durable, so it won't scratch easily. It's one of my most worn bags but still looks brand new, which is mostly due to the caviar leather. Lastly, a pair of oversized cat-eye sunglasses completes the look.
